Laura Pausini is the most famous Italian artist in the world. She’s a true star even outside our country, receiving prestigious awards and often beating colleagues of the calibre of Shakira or Jennifer Lopez (who are not what you’d call obscure…:D). She has millions of fans worldwide but, to me, more than anything, Laura is a friend.
I wanted to tell you that because sometimes I don’t realise how well known and loved she is… because when you’re with her, she is so completely down-to-earth that it’s easy to forget her fame. But that’s not all. She is able to say and do just the right thing at the right time, without even realising it. In short, Laura not only has the gift of her voice, but also the gift of communication, empathy and above all the ability to just be herself (which is a rare thing among artists!).
Every time Laura has a concert in Rome, I organise a little group of my friends (and Laura’s die-hard fans) and we all go together, like warriors, to sing like mad!!! The photos you can see below were taken on the evening of 11 December, with the relative pre-show, which she also takes part in.
The amazing thing is that she can have a friendly chinwag with us, and one second later, she’s on the stage singing marvellously! I and Antonella Clerici (she’s also been a friend of Laura’s for years) looked at each other and thought the same thing: “before you go on air, could you take photos with everyone and chat uninterruptedly as if it were nothing?” The answer is no…we couldn’t!!! But we’re human… Laura is bionic. She gets up on stage, sings and dances wildly… talks with the public as if she were at home, tells us little bits about her life and makes hilarious jokes… I mean, it’s incredible… she is a born entertainer, a real stage animal.
And then, when the concert was over… was she tired and looking forward to flopping into bed? Not a chance! She came over say hi to us again, with her gorgeous little daughter Paola in her arms and next to her Paolo (who besides her partner also happens to be one of the best guitarists in Italy)… so you can see for yourselves that she’s from another planet?!? Yep, I believe you know that already. And I think only that can explain her incredible success: not everyone has such a voice, or such spirit and not everyone can speak Portuguese, Spanish, French and English perfectly just to be able to communicate better with their audience… quite simply, not everyone has Laura’s drive and determination.
We had stacks of fun; it was a fantastic evening and I really wanted to share it with you, my pinelle and pinelli (Laura even gave you a mention during the concert…ahahaha!). Go and see her if you haven’t already. It was one of her most amazing concerts for me: slick, simple and very focused on her. I was really overcome. Thanks Girella, I love you! 🙂
