Amy Winehouse, the girl with extraordinary talent who succeeded in bringing soul music back into the limelight, thanks to her magnificent voice.
A young tormented girl who had one great passion: music. Her excesses, eating disorders and search for love; it all took place under the constant flashes of the paparazzi who never left her alone.
Like many before her, she passed away at the age of 27, thus (sadly) joining the so-called “Club 27” together with rock legends Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, Janis Joplin and many others, like Kurt Cobain, who we talked about a few weeks ago… The list gets longer and longer, and it would seem that 27 is a really unlucky number in the rock‘n’roll world!
English director Asif Kapadia (author of the multi award-winning “Senna”, about the great Formula Uno driver) decided to tell the story of the life of Amy Winehouse, through exclusive images and music. “Amy – The girl behind the name” was presented at the midnight screenings of the Cannes Film Festival.
Kapadia sought to reveal the person behind Amy by carefully studying her highly personal song lyrics, to discover something more about the troubled life of this girl with a perfect voice.
The film will be released in Italy next 15, 16 and 17 September and will be distributed by Nexo Digital. Here is a list of the cinemas showing what is a highly critically acclaimed documentary worldwide.
